Adding on from 5

I am learning to keep 5 in my head and add on.  This game is called Murtle Turtle and it reminds me to count on from a number.

Reading Eggs

I am learning to sound out 3 letter words by saying all the sounds and blending them together.  Reading Eggs helps me to reinforce my learning.

Acrostic poem

I am learning how to write an acrostic poem.  I know that I start each sentence with a letter of the subject.  I wrote about myself. 

"My work is fabulous! I am trying to sound out the words. I keep forgetting to do finger spaces." Josiah

Bird pillow

For our Art Exhibition this year we learnt how to sketch a bird.  The final drawing was transferred onto calico and dye was added.  The bird was glued onto a pillow that Mrs Scott and Mrs Worsfold had sewn.  Don't they look great!

I am learning to sound out 3 letter words.

I am learning to say the first, middle and last sound in a word and then blend the sounds together to write the word.  This can help me in my reading and my writing.

I am learning to make the beginning and end sounds

I am learning to make the beginning and end sounds in unknown words.  I need to get my mouth ready to make the sound and this activity helps me remember.

I am learning to count on from a number to 20

 Josiah, you are able to read on from any number up to 20. Next we will be working on ordering numbers to 20 and above.

"I can count on from 5 or 10. I can count to 100 by myself." said Josiah

Elm park 50th Birthday Party

We launched our Celebration Inquiry with a huge party for Elm Park School. This year our school will turn 50! We had a great day with our school friends and our whanau.

Josiah said," We did Pass the Parcel and made cookies and ate them. I had a good party day."

I am learning to form the numerals correctly.

I am learning to write my numbers around the right way.  I am able to write up to 12 correctly.

Josiah said," It is a little bit tricky. I can do a good four."

I am learning to make the first sound in new words.

I am learning to get my mouth ready for the first sound. I can make the sound now that I know most of my alphabet sounds.

Josiah said," I have to point at the book. I like monkey stories."

I am learning to care for our environment and make it look nice.

Josiah said, " I am holding so many flowers. I put it in the garden."
